Where the FLL leaves off, the FIRST Tech Challenge will continue . . .
The FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) is aimed at high school students, 14 - 18
years old. The first short season (Spring 2005) was limited to a
demonstration project in Atlanta during the FLL and FRC international
competitions. Two seasons of pilot projects (around 200 teams with 6
regional competitions, then around 800 teams with dozens of tournaments)
followed. Finally with the 2007-8 season, the FIRST Tech Challenge is a fully
accepted FIRST competition.
The new Vex Robotics Development System has been supplied by Radio Shack, as a partner and sponsor of
FIRST. Radio Shack has now withdrawn from the Vex product line, returning
the rights to Innovation FIRST (dba VexLabs), the originator of the concept and long-time
FIRST partner. And make no mistake, Vex is a most excellent
robotics kit!
The Sharon Youth Robotics Association attended the FIRST Tech Challenge in
Atlanta in 2005, 2006 and 2007, through the
participation of the proud members of teams Sharon Eagle Robotics Unlimited (FVC team 13,2013,
now FTC 1),
Sharon AngelBots (FVC team 44, 2044, now FTC 120) and Sharon Myotonics (FVC team 78,
2078, now FTC 512). We will be at the 2008 World Championships as well -
wish us luck!
